The CMU Marching Band performs at halftime for the CMU vs MSU game on Sept. 29 at Spartan Stadium.

The 10th annual PRISM concert will feature different spectrums of music like a prism includes different spectrums of light.

Doors will open at 7:15 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:30 Friday, Nov. 2 in Staples Concert Hall in the Music building.

The event is an indoor performance with three ensembles: Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and the Chippewa Marching Band.

The Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform for the first half, and the marching band will perform during the second half. The marching band's performance combines many of the songs they performed during the football season.

"It gives fans an opportunity to get a glimpse of the work of our concert bands and our marching band in a comfortable, indoor setting," said music faculty member James Batcheller, who is director of the Chippewa Marching Band and conductor of the CMU Wind Symphony.

PRISM began in 2008 under the name "Band-o-Rama." The event was moved from Plachta Auditorium to the Staples Family Concert Hall in the School of Music in 2012.

“The event is put on to celebrate the music programs and to highlight all the instrumental areas on campus” School of Music Secretary Jody Pierce said. “In the past we hosted events like this in Plachta Auditorium, but the music department decided to bring PRISM close to home.”

The event is free and open to the public. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Because the event is indoors, it will be loud, so earplugs will be available at the entrance.
