The Parks and Outdoor Recreation Coalition aims to offer an evening of adventure through a fundraising event featuring a rope course, archery and rock climbing.

The registered student organization will be hosting their first ever fundraising event, "Night of Adventure," from 6-9 p.m. on Jan. 17 in the Adventure Seminars room of Finch Fieldhouse at Central Michigan University.

The Adventures Seminars room is located inside Finch Fieldhouse and serves as a facility that offers recreational entertainment. Students will be allowed access to the activities for $5, and may pay $1 extra for pizza.

Grosse Pointe Woods senior Hope Haynes, the group's secretary, said the event will allow for non-recreation, parks and leisure services students to enjoy the exciting benefits of being in the community.

"Hopefully people that are interested will come to this event and see its a fun group and we like to all hang out and enjoy similar activities," Haynes said. "It's super fun to just have a night to relax and hang out."

Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the organization's minimalistic service to the Huron-Manistee National Forests, where they will assist National Park Service in trail maintenance.

Although 10-15 students attend the trip each semester, Haynes said they attempt to keep the trip as inexpensive as possible, with total costs staying near $200.

The group will be carpooling, sharing food and residing in tents for an entire weekend in April.

"It's still pretty cold but we usually just rough it out."

Night of Adventure will also feature nine silent auction items and a $50 gift card to nearby spa, Pure Vitality, as a door prize.

Haynes said the event will be followed by a fundraising series selling beeswax wraps created directly by the organization.
