CMU chief information officer Roger Rehm announces retirement

Central Michigan University's first Chief Information Officer Roger Rehm plans to retire next summer.

According to University Communications, Rehm announced his retirement Oct. 21, after almost 45 years at CMU.

As Chief Information Officer, he supported the launch of four major university website redesigns and CMU's current student information system. He also lead the construction of most of the university's current network and the installation and expansion of the campus Wi-Fi.

Rehm taught oboe at the school of music from 1975 to 2002. During this time, he also held several administrative roles, which included assistant director of the school of music from 1985-97.

He began working in the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Media in 1997 as an assistant to the dean. In 2002, he was named interim associate dean of the college, and he became the associate dean in 2003.

In fall 2004, he was appointed to serve as interim chief technology officer in the Office of Information Technology. After a national search, Rhem became the university's first chief information officer.

Executive Vice President and Provost Mary Schutten announced the national search for the next chief information officer. She appointed a committee, which will be assisted by the search firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates.

The search committee will be chaired by Kathy Irwin, dean of University Libraries. The committee members include:

  • Abby Dean, director of integrated marketing, University Communications.
  • Jon Humiston, provost's appointee.
  • Keith Malkowski, registrar.
  • Jeff McDowell, associate director, user services and support, Office of Information Technology.
  • Dave Patton, interim associate dean, College of Science and Engineering.
  • Mary Roy, associate general counsel.
  • Cal Seelye, executive director, auxiliary services.
  • Andrew Spencer, associate dean, College of the Arts and Media.
  • Jennifer Stilwell, project manager, Office of Information Technology.
  • Heidi Tracy, vice president, advancement.
