Central Michigan University's coed professional business fraternity aims to foster a space for career advancement, networking and hiring opportunities with its fall 2019 Career Fair.

Alpha Kappa Psi's official Career Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 in Finch Fieldhouse. More than 100 companies will be featured in the event, including Consumers Energy, Aldi, and The Hershey Company.

"My biggest advice is to be prepared, be confident and be yourself," said the group's External Vice President, Leah Batora. "Make sure you research the companies you want to talk to beforehand, print off plenty of updated resumes, prepare an elevator pitch and come with questions to ask the recruiters."

Alpha Kappa Psi has been hosting a career fair each semester since the 1970s.

Batora, an Elsie senior and the organization's external networking co-chair and corporate relations chair, said the event's biggest goal is "for the attendees and recruiters to walk away happy."

Ultimately, she aspires for students to be better exposed to the various opportunities available to them,  while also gaining a better understanding of what it means to actively pursue professional development.

She first attended a career fair during her sophomore year.

"It was the first career fair I ever went to and I quickly realized I wasn't prepared to be there. There was so much I didn't know about being a young business professional at the time," she said. "That is when I decided I wanted to actively start taking steps to grow professionally and one of those steps for me was getting more involved on campus."

Batora said the event welcomes all majors and several businesses are actively searching for students outside of business to hire.

"I think it is important to have this career fair because it allows students the opportunity to network and meet with recruiters from a wide variety of industries and leads to students getting internships, co-ops and full-time positions."
