Central Michigan University Executive Vice President and Provost Mary Schutten provides the Provost's Report Nov. 19 during an academic senate meeting.

Academic Senate elected multiple new senators to their executive board at the Nov. 19 meeting.

The new board members will start their positions at the beginning of the spring 2020 semester.

Katrina Piatek-Jimenez of mathematics will replace Brad Swanson of biology as chairperson. Academic advisor Andrew Devenne and Joellen DeLuci of English language and literature will become faculty executive board members, replacing Piatek-Jimenez and Tracy Davis of English language and literature.

Davies addressed low enrollment in his president report with an optimistic look to fall 2020 as high school students start application season.

"We have done many things different this year," Davies said. "We've gone to the Common Application. We've been much more aggressive throughout Michigan. We're also working with community colleges to receive transfer students and working with other four-year institutions to talk to those students that are thinking of transferring."

Davies did not provide any numbers or percentages for applications.

Davies also announced the fall break implementation committee has been assembled and he expects to receive recommendations by January.

Schutten reminded senators that the deadline for the President’s and Provost’s Fund for Program Innovation and Excellence is due Nov. 25. This fund will finance creative and innovative ideas for academic programs created by students and faculty.

Academic senate meetings are held every other Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in French Auditorium, Education and Human Services Building Room 118. Anyone, including students, can sit in on an academic senate meeting and meetings are live-streamed on the academic senate website
