Central Michigan has learned its bowl game destination.

The Chippewas are set to play San Diego State at 2 p.m. Dec. 21 in the New Mexico Bowl at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This is the fifth bowl game in the last six years and ninth since 2006.

Central Michigan hasn't won a bowl game since the 2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit, a 24-21 victory over Western Kentucky.

Jim McElwain, who promised to coach the bowl game despite coaching rumors, has the Chippewas at an 8-5 overall record after a 1-11 mark in 2018 under former coach John Bonamego.

The Chippewas are coming off a 26-21 loss to Miami (Ohio) in the Mid-American Conference championship game Saturday at Ford Field.
