On the Fly Productions will no longer exist following the Spring 2010 semester.

The program’s termination is a byproduct of budget cuts, said Public Relations Chair Amanda Rippin at a meeting Sunday.
“It’s going to be hard, but we had a great run,” she said.

Sign-up begins today for Alternative Breaks

Kirsten Trombly wanted to get involved.

That, and her desire to increase her awareness about social issues, inspired the Metamora junior to sign up for an Alternative Break, a program offered by CMU for students to
take weekends or even spring break to volunteer around the state, country or the world.

Charity’s getting help from students moving

Many local charities are getting aid from students who live in residence halls.

As residents begin moving out, many items that are still in good order are being left for charities through the Residence Hall Charity Drive.

Though the Residence Hall Charity Drive doesn’t officially begin until May 1, donations are already pouring in said Calkins Residence Hall Director Cathy Warner.

Thursday pancake breakfast serves as fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network

With the allure of pancakes, charity and brotherhood, Frankenmuth sophomore Kraig Haubenstricker knew he could not stay away.

Haubenstricker decided to join Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity after attending one of the group’s pancake breakfasts. He said the friendly atmosphere and fraternity’s commitment to giving back impressed him.

Students push for campus bike lanes

It is a hassle trying to ride a bike to class. Clusters of people crowd the sidewalks, leaving limited riding space for cyclists.

But, students with bikes may get more of a share of the sidewalk if Rebecca Wissman gets her way.

The Oxford freshman and four other classmates are campaigning to make Central Michigan University and Mount Pleasant more biker friendly.

President of Marketing Resource Group Inc. Tom Shields said Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s campaign lift out of Michigan will hurt his chances in the state.

“Why would you announce to people that you’re leaving?” Shields asked. “Frankly, it doesn’t make any sense.
