Student’s father running for governor seat, says campaign does not affect her life

Virginia Bernero is a little more tied to the upcoming gubernatorial election than most. Her father is running for the position. Bernero, a Lansing freshman, is the daughter of Virgil Bernero, current Lansing mayor and a recently announced contender in the race to succeed Jennifer Granholm as Michigan governor. She said it changes the way some people look at her.

Camarena to head Honors Program in August

Phame Camarena will take over as director of the Honors Program at Central Michigan University. On Thursday, the current chairman of the human environmental studies department was named the successor to former director James Hill. Camarena will begin Aug. 18.

SGA sponsoring workshop to outline how to start an RSO

Tom Idema said he believes students interested in starting a registered student organization may be surprised to find it is not difficult.

The assistant director of Student Life will speak from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Powers Hall Room 136 on how to start an RSO. The Student Government Association, with help from the Growth and Development Committee, will host the meeting.
