The College of Medicine project lacks vision and clarification, said the final candidate for associate dean of student affairs this week. Mala Chinoy, the last of three candidates to hold a forum for an associate dean position, spoke at Central Michigan University on Monday. Among her top concerns was the lack of clarification with how the College of Medicine will coexist with others on campus.
Dr. Robert Satonik said he sees the associate dean of student affairs as a fit for him.
Satonik, associate director of residency at Synergy Medical Education Alliance in Saginaw and temporary faculty for the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, gave background information and answered questions from a group of 14 people during the first open forum for the position today.
Central Michigan University is not the only institution in the state making strides toward opening a school of medicine.
Oakland University and Western Michigan University also are moving through the various stages of developing their own medical schools, and have been for more than a year.

Interim Provost Gary Shapiro said Tuesday that Cam Enarson has declined the position of Central Michigan University’s medical school dean.
In an e-mail, Shapiro said Enarson did not take the job because of family and personal reasons.
Students scheduled to take classes with Physics professor David Current this semester will not see a change in their class schedule.
Current died in his home Dec. 30 of natural causes, said Sherm Rowley of Helms Funeral Home. He was scheduled to teach his normal class load, said Physics Department Chairman Koblar Jackson, but the classes are still being offered.
