Tuition on the table at Thursday’s Trustees meeting

Undergraduate tuition for the 2009-2010 academic year will be set by the Board of Trustees Thursday.

The increase will affect all students without the CMU Promise, which includes all students who began attending Central Michigan University in August 2008 and all students who have been at CMU for more than five years.

Trustees raise tuition to $339 per credit hour

The Board of Trustees approved a 4.8 percent increase in undergraduate tuition at their meeting Thursday.

Students not covered by the CMU Promise, which comprises of about 51.4 percent of Central Michigan University’s student body, will pay $339 per credit hour, $15 more per credit hour than the 2008-09 school year.

Board names Kathy Wilbur interim university president

Kathy Wilbur will be Central Michigan University’s interim university president, effective July 1.

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees appointed Wilbur, who is the vice president of Governmental Relations and Public Affairs, on Thursday to take on the university’s top position.

Search firm, screening committee appointed for presidential search

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees has laid groundwork plans for its search to find the next university president.

Chairwoman Gail Torreano announced during the board’s meeting Thursday its choice to retain the services of Pennsylvania-based Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, LLC as the search firm to assist in recruiting and selecting a new president.

Rao selects interim med school dean

The establishment of the Central Michigan University school of medicine is one step closer with the appointment of an interim dean.

Cam Enarson was selected to fill the position during a medical school update at the Board of Trustees meeting Thursday. For the last several months, steps to reach agreements for the school’s hospital affiliations and program accreditation have been under the supervision of University President Michael Rao.

Room, board rates increase 3 percent

The Board of Trustees on Thursday increased room and board rates by 3 percent and off-campus program undergraduate tuition rates by 4 percent.

Central Michigan University apartments will increase their rates by 2 percent.

An anticipated decline in on-campus residents is cited as a reason behind the increase.

Live blogging from the Board of Trustees

12:32 p.m.: Political science faculty member James Hill requests the Board of Trustees to not adopt the proposed political candidacy policy during public comment. He said the existing policy has existed for half a century, and that it is important to give faculty a couple of months to give their input and help develop a policy that is more balanced and promotes public service.
