Nooses found, students questioned

Central Michigan University Police questioned students and employees after someone found four hangman nooses inside a classroom Nov. 12, 2007.

A student found the nooses after walking into Engineering and Technology Building Room 228, said Police Chief Stan Dinius.

Local woman slain, husband flees

A Gaylord man was arrested Jan. 9 in Osceola County after he shot and killed his wife earlier in the afternoon in downtown Mount Pleasant.

Mary Babb, 30, was shot around 4:30 p.m. in the Commerce Center parking lot, 711 W.

Lennox, Gates butt heads

Isabella County prosecutors decided not to press charges in two related cases filed Oct. 16, involving a CMU student and a university administrator, said Steve Smith, director of media relations.

Topinabee junior Dennis Lennox II and Pam Gates, interim dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, each filed incident reports and charges with CMU Police following the Oct.

Arson Attempt

Fire officials are looking for suspects after a fire in Wheeler Hall on Feb. 14 caused approximately $15,000 to $20,000 in damage.

The fire, which started on a couch that officials believe was deliberately ignited, forced 342 students to evacuate the residence hall.

Fire guts pizza landmark

A historic piece of Mount Pleasant now lies in ruins.

A fire consumed Pizza King around 4 a.m. Sept. 16.

The fire destroyed the building at 714 E. Preston St. Firefighters spent the day at the scene cleaning up the wreckage.

Spring tuition remains same as fall

There will be no tuition hike for incoming spring and summer 2008 students.

Central Michigan University’s Board of Trustees also extended the CMU Promise at its meeting on Dec. 6.

The board carried over the fall 2007 rate of $304 per undergraduate tuition hour.

Freshmen tuition rate increases

Fall 2007 freshmen are paying $304 per credit hour rather than the $251 rate set for freshmen in 2006 – a 21.1 percent increase.

The Board of Trustees approved the decision on July 12, as opposed to one other option, which would have increased tuition by 23.
