Collmenter returns to mid-Michigan one year removed from college

It isn't often that the visiting pitcher hears the loudest cheers. But for Josh Collmenter, that was the case Monday night when the former Central Michigan standout returned to mid-Michigan as a professional. Collmenter, now a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks low-A South Bend Silver Hawks, was thrilled to get the nod against the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond in Midland.

Seven pitchers, 12 position players, 15 hits and 12 runs were all the Central Michigan baseball team needed to snap its three-game skid Tuesday against Michigan State. CMU topped the Spartans 14-6 at Thuenissen Stadium and completed a four-game sweep of its 2008 Big Ten opponents.
Two sports on academic watch after NCAA report

Like football, the Central Michigan men's basketball program dealt with a coaching change in the last four years. But unlike its counterparts, the team reached the benchmark for academic progress - but not by much. The Academic Progress Rate report lists 925 as the mark for acceptable academic standing through four years.

After being ranked second in the Mid-American Conference, the Central Michigan softball team was shocked by their early exit from the Mid-American Conference tournament on May 8th. "I think that we were definitely disappointed about the result of the tournament," said junior pitcher Ali Pettit.
