Student loans could soon get cheaper. The U.S. House approved legislation Wednesday that would cut the interest rate on need-based federal tuition loans in half by July 2011. Stafford Federal student loan rates currently are fixed at 6.8 percent. The lower rates would apply to loans taken out since last July.

Central/Western blood drive begins this week
Red Cross officials expect decrease in pints donated

Anyone who is able and willing to donate blood will have plenty of options in the coming days as the Central/Western Spring Blood Challenge begins. The American Red Cross will serve the CMU community Tuesday through Friday this week and Monday through Friday next week, according to Ciara O'Laoire, Beverly Hills senior and public relations and special events intern for the Central Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross.

An 18-year-old CMU student could face up to four years in prison for what police officers found on his computer. Muskegon freshman Eric Ablin is charged with one count of possession of child sexually abusive material, which is considered a four-year felony, said Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick.
