University President Michael Rao lambasted those responsible for anti-gay chalkings in an e-mail Tuesday to the CMU community. The chalkings, which appeared Monday between Anspach and Pearce halls, left derogatory and vulgar messages pertaining to the gay community.

Doris Moore landed a job in the Secret Service by enlisting in the Army with a CMU teaching degree. Moore, a 90-year-old 1938 CMU alumna, worked at the Pentagon during World War II. University officials said the decision to bring a sixth chief diversity officer candidate to campus doesn't mean the other five finalists were deemed unsatisfactory. CMU announced Tuesday that Denise O. Green, an associate professor in the College of Education and Health Services at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, will visit campus on April 23 as a finalist for the associate vice president for institutional diversity position.

The Student Government Association's Senate has deemed the Young Americans for Freedom a hate group. Senators approved a resolution labeling YAF a hate group at its meeting Monday in the Charles V. Textbook ink change may affect colorblind students

A recent alteration in textbook printing might become a problem for students with a certain type of colorblindness. Some publishing companies have altered the print in their books, using blue ink instead of the traditional black. McGraw-Hill and Prentice Hall are two of the publishing companies switching the text color in some of their newer publications.

The Sophisticated Women of Color sponsored "Red Diary Poetry Night" at the Wesley Center Foundation, 1400 S. Whitmore Lake junior Bryan Klopp was informed during the fall semester of his freshman year he might not be coming back to CMU in the spring. It wasn't a result of poor academic performance or social misconduct. Mike Neubecker thought his son Lee was confused when he told him he was gay. "He's gotta be confused, sure, he was confused," Neubecker reminisced. "I thought that there was something wrong here, but realized that I was the one who was wrong." New Dean Search Withdrawal narrows field The search for a new dean of graduate studies is a match between two candidates after Timothy P. Mack withdrew his candidacy Monday. He was the fourth candidate from an initial field of 11 to withdraw in favor of another university.

Corrections

In the Wednesday, April 4 edition of Central Michigan Life, senior men's track sprinter Steve Wezner was wrongly noted as a two-time defending Mid-American Conference Champion in the 400-meter run. Wezner has won three consecutive 400m titles at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
