'Church' in charge

Dan Church is a key spokesperson for students across the nation.
The Novi junior and Broadcast and Cinematic Arts major, was appointed chair of the National Broadcasting Society's Student Advisory Council in May. Church was nominated by the former chair and approved by the council.
"His leadership abilities are outstanding and he is always thinking ahead," said Jerry Henderson, associate BCA professor and adviser to the CMU chapter of the NBS.
As chair, Church represents the 84 NBS chapters and more than 1,000 members on a national level. He takes advice and suggestions from the chapters of NBS and presents it to National Advisory Council.
"I'm excited and honored," Church said. "I didn't feel it was a big deal until my adviser said it was."
Church also is the president of CMU's chapter of NBS.
He is in charge of planning and attending upcoming events. One event is a convention that takes place each year. This year it will take place in Los Angeles.
"He is obviously a real leader," said Peter Orlik, BCA chairperson. "He will take the lead at getting any task accomplished."
Church is a recipient of the Leader Advancement Scholarship and involved with Moore Hall Television and its News Central 34 newscast. He also works as a production technician at WNEM-TV 5 in Saginaw.
Church said he was offered an internship after the NBS National Convention in Chicago last year. He also was honored as National Rookie Member of the Year at last year's convention.
Broadcasting has become Church's passion.
"I've been making movies with my best friend Keith since I was a little kid," he said. "It felt like it was the only thing I should do."
Orlik said Church's position is great for networking with professionals in the business.
Church said he's already gotten calls from media profes sionals recognizing his new the position.
"It's not just good for me," he said. "It gives a good name to the entire chapter."
