Fans had the chance to vote Monday for Dan LeFevour as the USA Today's Player of the Week.
And they did just that.
The sophomore quarterback received 56 percent of the votes to beat out Texas Tech's Graham Harrell (38 percent) and Michigan State's Javon Ringer (5 percent) as the nation's top performer this week.
"I didn't really know about it until (Monday), LeFevour said. "It's more flattering than anything, to know that people are recognizing what we're doing more as a team; more that we're noticed."
The fan vote was open through noon Tuesday and made up one-third of the award, while votes also went to college football editor Erick Smith and Gannett columnist Mike Lopresti.
LeFevour had four rushing touchdowns and threw for two more Saturday in CMU's 47-23 win against Army at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. He finished with 251 passing yards and 100 yards rushing.
Harrell passed 30-for-37 for 425 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for another in the Red Raiders' 35-7 win against Texas A&M. Ringer, MSU's running back, carried the ball 29 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns in the a 52-27 win against Indiana.
On the other side
Red Keith also has been talked about for his success.
The senior linebacker has been named as one of 153 national semifinalists for the National Football Foundation's Draddy Trophy.
Semifinalists must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, while also having outstanding football ability and strong leadership skills.
The NFF Awards Committee selects 15 finalists on Oct. 25. Each finalist receives an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship, while the winner of the Draddy Trophy takes home $25,000 and is awarded the honor Dec. 4 in New York City.
Keith is a two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference honoree.
