Halloween came a bit early for a Walgreens pharmacist this week.

An individual wearing a skeleton mask jumped over the drug store's pharmacy counter Tuesday night, but instead of asking for candy, he demanded OxyContin.

Mount Pleasant Police still are searching for the suspect, who is described as a white male, between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall.

Witnesses said the suspect has a thin build and was wearing blue jeans, a camouflage long-sleeve hooded jacket with a dark colored short-sleeved jacket over it at the time of the attempted strong-armed robbery at 10:35 p.m. at the store, located at 1309 S. Mission St., said Officer Dave Sabuda.

"He never displayed or indicated a weapon," Sabuda said.

After the suspect jumped over the pharmacy counter and demanded OxyContin, the pharmacist refused service and the suspect fled the scene.

"He wasn't overtly-assertive about it," Sabuda said. "No one was hurt and no drugs were taken."

Although the suspect allegedly left the store without any stolen items, the incident is classified as a strong-armed robbery because the suspect showed intent to steal, Sabuda said.

Walgreens locations throughout the country have surveillance equipment that could help officers catch whoever committed the crime, said Carol Hively, Walgreens corporate spokesperson.

"We release any video that the police ask us for," Hively said.

Sabuda said the department still is awaiting surveillance photographs from Walgreens.

Officers plan on using the surveillance video to determine whether the suspect entered the drug store wearing the skeleton mask or he just grabbed it off one of the shelves.

The Walgreens pharmacist refused to give the suspect a dosage of OxyContin, which is one of the tactics all employees are trained to do in situations involving a robbery.

"Employees who have had these types of experiences say it is helpful," Hively said.
