Former CMU football player De'Onte C. Burnam agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors charges this past Thursday, according to court documents.

The plea agreement stipulates Burnam will plead guilty to maintaining a drug house, a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. Burnam also will, under the agreement, plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of resisting a police officer, which is punishable by up to one year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

Neither Isabella County Prosecutor Larry Burdick nor Burnam's defense attorney Edward Czuprynski returned phone calls Tuesday.

Prior to the agreement, Burnam was facing up to 40 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine for his cumulative record up to his Oct. 3 arrest and subsequent Oct. 4 arraignment for manufacturing and delivering cocaine as well as resisting a police officer.

He also was charged with a felony count of delivering and manufacturing marijuana stemming from an Aug. 30 arrest.

Burnam was dismissed from the football team Oct. 4 and his scholarship was rescinded shortly after.

Athletics Director Dave Heeke declined to comment Tuesday.

Burnam's sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Isabella Circuit Court.
