Dewar sentenced

Peeping coach gets probation

Former CMU assistant volleyball coach William Christopher Dewar will serve two years of probation for looking at unclothed women at a Union Township apartment complex.Isabella County Trial Judge Mark Duthie on Monday sentenced Dewar to the probation term for a disorderly person/window peeping conviction and ordered a two-year delay of a 45-day jail sentence on a surveilling an unclothed person conviction. Duthie credited Dewar, 32, for one day in jail and suspended the remaining 44 days, but said Dewar will face jail time if he violates his probation. Duthie also said Dewar cannot drink alcohol, coach and must continue counseling during his probation. Dewar pleaded no contest to the charges on Sept. 11. Dewar was charged under a window peeping law - surveilling an unclothed person, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison. Police arrested him May 29 when an Isabella County deputy caught him looking into a woman's apartment from outside a window. He coached one season at CMU.

City Commission

Tax exception

The Mount Pleasant City Commission voted unanimously Monday to grant a 50 percent tax exemption to Quality Seed and Grain Equipment, 2150 Industrial Trail. The commission voted to give the company exemption of 50 percent on more than $45,000 worth of "relevant personal property". QSAGE is a company which designs and constructs custom machinery dealing with seed and grain. Katherine Methner, director of business development at the Mid Michigan Development Corporation, said Mount Pleasant is investing in local business by granting the exemption. "We need to do what we can to help these companies grow," she said. Methner said QSAGE can now hire more employees and look into constructing a larger building. "It's about the next equipment," Methner said.
