With the energy coming from the dance room, students could have two-stepped all night.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity hosted "Diamonds and Pearls: The pretty Komeback" Saturday night at the Student Activity Center.

There were 169 people who attended the dance.

"We were definitely pleased with the turnout," said Harold Worsham, Kappa Alpha Psi vice president and organizer of the event. "This was an opportunity for students to have a good time and meet fellow students."

Worsham, a Mount Pleasant senior, said the dance was a chance to socialize and interact with others.

Shalina Walker, Alpha Kappa Alpha vice president and Mount Pleasant junior, said the sorority and fraternity planned the event in hopes of raising money for future events and gaining supporters, as both are new to the Greek world.

Students showed up, ready to bust a move. The girls came in heels and guys came with clean polo's and fresh cologne.

"I like dancing and the music is good," said Carly Wilson, Detroit sophomore. "It's fun talking to people and getting to intermingle."

Wilson said she was there to support her friends and have good, clean fun.

As promised, security was in full effect, metal detectors and all.

"It's a good idea to have the security," said Oluyemi Olumolade, Mount Pleasant sophomore. "We want to be safe."

Olumolade said he enjoyed the dancing and the music.

The security didn't bother Martinus Evans.

"I have no problem with it," the Warren senior said. "It doesn't matter if they're here or not. I'm just here to have a good time."

Flint senior and Phi Beta Sigma President Detrone Turner said if people are having fun, they don't need security.

"The DJ's playing good records," he said. "He knows what to play back to back."

Evans, being a DJ himself, said he felt the DJ was doing a pretty good job. The dance was a fun way to support the fraternity and sorority, he said.

"There's good people and good music. It's easy to enjoy myself," Turner said.
