Increased recycling on CMU's campus saves money, energy

There are more and more plastic and metal structures popping up on campus and in class halls. The tiny containers are there to make campus cleaner and save the university money. They're recycling bins - 18 were added in October for recycling paper products on the first floors of Anspach, Pearce and Grawn halls to encourage students to recycle items like newspapers, said Steve Lawrence, associate vice president of Facilities Management.

Work on the new Education Building is on budget and on schedule. Construction will continue throughout the winter, said Steve Lawrence, vice president of Facilities Management. Winter construction is a common practice in Michigan, and necessary if the building is to be completed by its February 2009 deadline, Lawrence said.

A deadly form of staph infection has been detected on Central Michigan University's campus, but officials say there isn't any need for panic. "At University Health Services, we have had five cases of (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) since July 1, 2007, which is more than we saw from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007," said Sarah Campbell, director of University Health Services.

Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police are investigating reports that Augustine Floyd was seen after the party he initially was thought to have disappeared from. The missing 18-year-old Suttons Bay man came to Mount Pleasant Oct. 12 to attend T-Pain's concert on CMU's campus and attended a party afterwards on the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Reservation.
Urban Coffeehouse ready to serve up tunes

An ordinary classroom will become a coffeehouse tonight, playing host to musical artists Chinua Hawk and Chris Cauley. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for Program Board's free "Urban Coffeehouse" concert in Pierce 128. The show is pegged to start at 8 p.m. It will feature Hawk and Cauley, who are performing exclusively on college campuses as part of their "Brother from Another Mother" tour.
