Chippewa fans already have begun buying their tickets for the Mid-American Conference Championship.

The Central Michigan football team will play in the championship game for the second consecutive year at either 11 a.m. or noon Saturday, Dec. 1 at Ford Field in Detroit.

The phones at the Athletic Ticket Office have been ringing ever since reserve tickets went on sale Wednesday, officials said.

"We moved all the phones into the back conference room and we're taking calls. It's been pretty steady so far," said Fraser senior Matt Terman, senior ticket associate at the CMU ticket office.

Tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for students. They can be purchased by calling 1-888-FIRE-UP-2 or online at cmuchippewas.com.

A $5 transaction fee for all phone and Internet orders will be applied.

CMU is allocated 3,000 tickets, but can get more if needed, said Scott Rex, assistant sports information director.

"We just got the tickets in today and it will take a few days to get them into the system," Terman said. "We'll have them out by next week. We're taking orders and mailing them out as soon as we get them."

Tickets are being sold on a first come, first serve basis.

Last year, 25,483 tickets were sold for the Motor City Bowl. Terman said it is difficult to know if ticket sales will match those of last year's game. The team CMU plays will be a factor in attendance.

Last year, 17 buses carried students to Detroit for the game. This year, there will be significantly less, although the CMU ticket office has not yet determined what that number will be.

"Last year we kept adding and adding and we finally had to stop and cut it off," said Ashley Steffen, ticketing and promotions intern. "We're going to decide on a set number of buses this year and put that out so everyone knows."

Bus packages are available for students and Chippewa Club members, $30 for students and $75 for Chippewa Club members.

The package will include a ticket to both a pre-game and postgame reception at Ford Field. To order a bus package, contact the Chippewa Athletic Fund Office at 774-6680.
