The women's cross country team has slowly climbed its way up the Great Lakes Regional poll this season. CMU earned the 15th-ranked spot in the preseason and now is ranked 13th. The Chippewas get to see where they stand in the region Saturday as the NCAA Great Lakes Regional takes place at 11 a.

The men's cross country team will put itself to the test against some of the top teams in the nation at noon Saturday at the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Regional meet in Bloomington, Ind. The Chippewas come off a third-place finish in the Mid-American Conference championships and have their sights set on a top 10 finish in a 32-team region.

The men's basketball team used every second on the clock to escape its exhibition opener against Hillsdale. Wednesday, it didn't need to. This time, there was no last-second escape as CMU beat Northwood 75-54 at Rose Arena. CMU received 16 points from freshman guard Jeremy Allen and a strong defensive effort from the rest of the team in its last tune-up before Monday's season opener at Missouri.

Four players have double-digit kills, CMU wins on road
The volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match Thursday with the help of four players amassing double-digit kills. The Chippewas won the four-game match against Eastern Michigan (18-12 overall, 8-7 Mid-American Conference) 30-21, 23-30, 30-28 and 30-19 at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti.
Goals could be plentiful for CMU against Ferris

The club hockey team looks to continue building its momentum at 9 p.m. today against Ferris State at the Isabella County Events Arena. "It's very positive momentum that we got going on right now," said junior Andrew Anson. Ferris State (4-9 overall) has struggled at times, but still presents a threat to CMU.

Women's basketball coach Sue Guevara said the team's first regular season game is just the first mile in a 31-mile marathon. Central faces Illinois-Chicago at 7 p.m. today at Rose Arena for the opening game of a new season with a new coach. But Guevara is not looking ahead on the schedule, but rather looking at each game one at a time.
