"It's very positive momentum that we got going on right now," said junior Andrew Anson.
Ferris State (4-9 overall) has struggled at times, but still presents a threat to CMU. It is the only team to beat No. 1-ranked Grand Valley State this season.
"They're always a tough team to play against; they're not a pushover like Dayton or Bowling Green," said captain Craig Lipar. "You got to show up and play your best, otherwise they can upset you and make things interesting in the rankings."
No. 6 Central will keep the same philosophy it has throughout the season - focusing more on what its team is doing instead of worrying about its opponent.
"To win this weekend we're going to have to keep doing what were doing," Anson said. "We play a very fast-paced game. We want to make them play our game."
CMU knows it should score goals against Ferris State, a team allowing 5.6 goals against per game. However, CMU also is looking to keep its defense rolling, which has improved vastly in recent weeks.
"We want to keep their opportunities to a minimum, try to the keep the goals against under two," Lipar said.
Central comes into the game with wins in four of its last five games, including a big win against No. 2 Michigan. CMU's only loss in that stretch was a 5-4 loss to Oakland University.
"It was definitely a confidence builder for a lot of the guys on the team," Lipar said.
Even with the team playing well right now, Central still hasn't met its goals.
"We're not even halfway through the season yet," Anson said. "Everybody's still getting used to each other and we got this new coach and the new system. We got a long ways to go still."
CMU plays three games next weekend, including a Sunday afternoon match against No. 3 Davenport.
