The volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match Thursday with the help of four players amassing double-digit kills.
The Chippewas won the four-game match against Eastern Michigan (18-12 overall, 8-7 Mid-American Conference) 30-21, 23-30, 30-28 and 30-19 at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti.
Most of senior setter Courtney Kersten's 52 assists went to junior Sarah Warner, who recorded 17 kills and a .250 hitting percentage to lead the Chippewas.
Two-time defending Mid-American Conference Player of the Week this season Kate Fissel had 14 kills but struggled with a .043 hitting percentage. Fissel's hitting percentage was one of her lowest of the season, but the depth of the rest of the team was able to pick up the slack.
Junior middle blocker Whitney Evers came away with 13 kills, while freshman Lauren Krupsky and Sam Otte had 12 and seven, respectively.
The win moves CMU within a half match of MAC West Division-leading Western Michigan. The Broncos face Toledo today in an effort to remain in first place alone.
Central Michigan (21-8,10-5 MAC) will close out the regular season Saturday against MAC East Division-leading Ohio in Athens, Ohio, while WMU will welcome Ball State to Kalamazoo for its final match of the season.
The volleyball team can clinch a first-round bye in the MAC Tournament if it wins the remainder of its games and Western Michigan loses.
Otherwise, the Chippewas would host their first-ever MAC Tournament game at Rose Arena next week, possibly against MAC West rival Toledo.

This would not be the first-ever MAC Tournament game at Rose Arena. The volleyball team hosted the first round of the tournament last year as well.
