A new telephone line connecting Mount Pleasant residents to local assistance will begin in summer of 2008.
Services from financial assistance to job help are offered by 2-1-1, a national program.
It will be presented by the Listening Ear of Mount Pleasant and the Salvation Army.
The 2-1-1 service will not cost the city, said Don Schuster, executive director of Listening Ear.
During a Monday City Commission meeting, he said the program didn't need approval or money from the commission. "We just needed to inform them," Schuster said.
Currently, 65 percent of the country has access to 2-1-1. The program operates similar to 9-1-1, a nationally recognized number also connecting to a local center.
The Mid-Michigan 2-1-1 center will serve Isabella, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, and Midland counties.
"They want support from all of us, this is one way of doing that," Schuster said.
