Volleyball coach Erik Olson will try to lead his team past the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament on Tuesday for the first time in his tenure.

Central is the No. 6 seed and hosts Toledo at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Arena, where it is 11-2 this season.

"We proved against Western that when we are aggressive, we're a really good team," said senior setter Courtney Kersten. "If we are aggressive, we can go a long way."

CMU ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss Saturday at No. 15 Ohio. The Bobcats snapped CMU's eight-match winning streak in a three-game win (30-16, 30-20, 30-21).

OU outhit the Chippewas .383 to .162 and overwhelmed the young Central players.

Junior middle blocker Whitney Evers hit .438, but only had 16 attacks for nine kills. The bulk of the offense ran through juniors Kate Fissel and Sarah Warner, who had 11 and 10 kills on 33 and 26 attacks, respectively.

Freshman Lauren Krupsky recorded four kills, but hit just .059.

Olson, who likes to use analogies to explain himself, used a new one to explain the experience of playing the No. 15 Bobcats.

"It's like getting on the bus in 70-degree weather and getting off in Ohio where it's 200 degrees," he said "You better bring your sun block."

CMU couldn't match Ohio's firepower Saturday, largely because of its youth. The Chippewas have been the recipient of outstanding production from their freshman this season, but they were overwhelmed in Ohio's hostile environment.

"We played a little young," Evers said. "But they are definitely a beatable team if we meet them again."
