The Multicultural Education Center is seeking 20 students to help create and revise their orientation programs for incoming freshmen.

"We're looking for all kinds of students to help with this program," said A. M. Ulana Klymyshyn, director of the Multicultural Education Center. "I'm looking for students that can help direct, act and write skits for the program."

The first meeting was Thursday in the Multicultural Education Center, located in the Bovee University Center 125, but no one attended.

Klymyshyn believes that was because of the lack of promotion and said she is trying to find other ways to get students interested.

But one student, Southfield junior Bridgette Wynn, already is.

"I'm interested because I worked with Ulana on 'Through the Eyes of Jo,'" said Wynn, a Woldt Hall multicultural adviser. "I enjoyed participating in the program, so making something completely new would be very exciting."

Klymyshyn plans on getting the attention of more students by getting help from Minority Student Services.

Central Michigan University freshmen are required to attend orientation sessions designed to teach them about diversity and other social issues at CMU.

The skits focus on aspects of diversity including gender and sexual orientation.

One of the skits often presented during the mandatory orientation sessions is "Through the Eyes of Jo."

The concept for "Through the Eyes of Jo," which Wynn helped produce, is to help prepare freshmen for living in a diverse environment.

"They discuss a variety of different things including race, gender, sexual orientation and disability," Klymyshyn said. "Most of what we have done have been live performances by CMU students."

Klymyshyn would like the scripts to be finished by the end of this semester so performances can begin next semester.

"We would like to do one performance in the spring, and later performances in the fall," Klymyshyn said.

Anyone interested can contact Klymyshyn at 774-7318 or in the UC room 125.
