After performing twice at "Roc the Mic" last year, new doors opened for Kirk Wilcox.
Since then, the Royal Oak junior has performed at Joey's Comedy Club in Livonia.
"I just really enjoyed making people laugh," Wilcox said.
Wilcox said he is looking forward to performing his comedy routine for the third time at "Roc the Mic."
Students like Wilcox will have their chance to perform at Thursday's event.
On The Fly Productions is sponsoring the event, which will take place at 9 p.m. at Real Food on Campus.
At past "Roc the Mic" events students came together and displayed their talents for an audience.
The majority of performers were singers, guitarists and comedians.
"'Roc the Mic' gives students the opportunity to see fellow students perform who aren't a part of the well-known group of entertainers out there," said Joe Miller, Decatur junior and co-chair of OTF.
Miller said many people who have performed in the past tend to come back again for future performances. Open mic nights really boost the performers moral when they see all the people in attendance, he said.
Sterling Heights senior and OTF public relations chair Cristina D'Aristotile said she expects a couple hundred people to attend.
"There are a variety of open mic events around town and having one located on campus allows all students, with or without a car, to have the opportunity to come," she said.
The event is free.
Anyone interested in participating in "Roc the Mic" can e-mail OTF at onthefly@cmich.edu. When signing up make sure to include a name, talent and contact number.
