LeFevour, the youngest of five, is 14 years younger than his oldest brother. He also has two sisters, ages 31 and 28. He said because of the disparity, he received a lot of attention.
But as a recruit, he didn't receive much notice from the larger schools.
"I'm sure there are a lot of schools out there right now that are kind of just sitting there saying, 'We had a chance on him and didn't follow through on it,'" Goforth said. "I told coaches when they came in, 'The best quarterback in the state of Illinois is at my school right now.'"
So when LeFevour took the reigns Aug. 31 last year on the season's second play, it was a surprise to many - 'little' Benet, with an enrollment of 1,300, was in the spotlight.
"My wife called me when Dan got into the game against Boston College," Gaughan said. "It was like the buzz of the night. People have a great deal of respect for him. He did a lot for both the football and basketball programs here."
