Senior Keith could surpass former linebacker Ray Bentley tonight for career tackles

The first thing Red Keith did when he came to CMU in 2003 was pick up the latest football media guide. He flipped through the historical pages to find Ray Bentley, the menacing former linebacker who became the only defensive player to win the Mid-American Conference's Most Valuable Player award in 1982.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jeff Maddux ripped the helmet off an Eastern Michigan defender grabbing his leg on a busted play and threw it towards mid-field. Unfortunately for CMU, the ball moved back as well and so did CMU's hopes of winning. EMU pulled out a 48-45 win Friday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium to win the Michigan MAC Trophy.

Regulation football has become hard to come by in the Central Michigan vs. Eastern Michigan rivalry. In the last three meetings, the schools have needed overtime to decide a winner, with EMU winning twice. CMU faces EMU at 7 p.m. tonight at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

QUARTERBACKS Sophomore Dan LeFevour showed greatness yet again last week when he led CMU to a game-winning touchdown over WMU. EMU's Andy Schmitt has thrown 13 touchdowns and just five interceptions, while also running for 219 yards. ADVANTAGE: CMU. LeFevour has been dominant in Mid-American Conference play - the team is 13-1 against the conference when he starts.

Seniors play last game at home

The stage already is set for the football players. They already get a chance to end their careers with two consecutive Mid-American Conference titles. But tonight is their last chance to showcase themselves at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, a place they've had some of their most memorable experiences during the last four years.

Ernie Zeigler called Tuesday's 75-70 loss to Central Missouri a letdown. But CMU's opening week of the season isn't over yet. The men's basketball team can get its first win when it plays Niagara at 7 p.m. today in Niagara Falls, N.Y. "(The losses) are definitely in the past," Zeigler said.

Wrestling intrasquad Sunday

The wrestling team has eight returning national qualifiers. But several starting positions still are up for grabs. Coach Tom Borrelli will be watching closely at the CMU's annual intrasquad meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Arena. "No matter your rank or who you are, we're starting all over again," Borrelli said.

Volleyball faces Miami in tourney

The volleyball team will play in the second round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time in 25 years this weekend. CMU faces Miami at 11 a.m. today at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio. After getting their first five-game win of the season Tuesday in a thriller with Toledo, the Chippewas are hoping to avenge a five-game loss to the RedHawks earlier in the season.

Women's basketball hosts Chicago State

Women's basketball coach Sue Guevara enjoyed having Angela Jackson on the sideline with her at Michigan a few years ago. Now, Guevara will go head-to-head with her former assistant at 2 p.m. Saturday against Chicago State at Rose Arena. "It's been so fun to watch (Jackson) grow," Guevara said.
