Miami fans will be cheering loudly Saturday - for Bowling Green, that is.
The Mid-American Conference East Division title is at stake when Buffalo plays Bowling Green. Miami can clinch the MAC East with a Buffalo loss and earn the right to play Central Michigan Dec. 1 in the MAC Championship game.
With Miami's victory against Buffalo two weeks ago, the Bulls need Miami to lose against Ohio next week to stay in contention for the MAC East. While the Bulls watched Wednesday night's Miami-Akron game, which Miami won 7-0, Buffalo isn't totally focused on Miami yet.
Miami is 4-1 in the MAC East, while Buffalo is 3-1.
"We have to take care of our own business," coach Turner Gill told the Buffalo News. "What ever happens, happens."
Bowling Green, despite being the only bowl-eligible team in the East beside Miami, saw its hopes for a MAC title erased Wednesday when the RedHawks edged Akron in the second half. Bowling Green needed two consecutive losses from Miami as well to even have a shot.
But the Falcons (6-4 overall) still have a bowl game to play for, and coach Gregg Brandon said the Falcons still need the win.
"The goal was to win these last four and we are halfway home. If we can win these next two we will be a bowl game; we will be virtually locked," Brandon told the Bowling Green Sentinal-Tribune. "Lose one of them, then it's going to be a beauty contest. Lose them both and obviously we'll be out."
The players realize this, as well.
"They are going to come out jacked up," BGSU senior defensive lineman Sean O'Drobinak told the Bowling Green Sentinal-Tribune. "We just have to come out and match their intensity."
