Eastern was nearly unstoppable on third and fourth downs. It went 9-for-17 on third downs and 5-for-5 on fourth downs.
"If you look at all the games, we've won, we've made plays down the road in crucial situations," Jones said. "Today we didn't, and that was obviously the difference in the game."
CMU only committed two turnovers, but it was the key situations in which they occurred that made a difference.
After EMU drove down the field for a touchdown to begin the game, freshman Matt Berning was unable to grab the ensuing kickoff and the ball was recovered by EMU's Tyler Jones at the CMU 33-yard line.
LeFevour was intercepted in the fourth quarter by EMU junior defensive lineman Josh Hunt on the CMU 18-yard line.
Two plays later, Eastern scored to take a 42-38 lead.
But Central came back when junior running back Justin Hoskins scored on a 12-yard draw play to snatch the lead back, 45-42 with 6:30 remaining.
Hoskins finished with 11 carries for a career-high 133 yards.
"(Hoskins) has been an individual that's been playing pretty well for us," Jones said. "I thought it was probably the most balanced game we've had in terms of rushing and passing."
CMU next plays 11 a.m. Friday at Akron.
"This let everybody know that we're not invisible, and we can be beat," said senior defensive tackle Steven Friend. "But we still have the MAC Championship to go to, and hopefully the Motor City Bowl to go to."

And how we've shown with such class how we play football at CMU. Mr. Maddux do you have any idea how you have set CMU football and the University as a whole back because of your jackass and classless move. (Continued…)

It's too late in the season for a coach's quotes to be "hats off to the opponent" and "we made too many mistakes to win the game" against a 3-8 squad. (Continued…)

The defense was unacceptable. SIX FOR SIX ON FOURTH DOWN! You people get paid to put a good defense on the field, and you let us down coaches. Lets whip this team into shape and get a win at akron and back on track. (Continued…)
