And this time the organization isn't played on ice.
A club roller hockey team's RSO status was finalized Nov. 13.
Shelby Township junior Mike Crank initially came up with the idea of the club, but it wasn't until Farmington Hills junior Matt Austin contacted Crank that it took off.
"I think we both had ideas but he's the one that took the initiative and got it started," said Crank, team vice president.
After they came together, the hardest obstacle they faced was correcting the proper wording in the constitution.
"It's an exhausting process," Crank said.
Now the club can move forward to its next step - working with University Recreation and the Club Sports Council
"We hold a meeting and orientate them to the Club Sports Handbook. During this meeting (we) explain all the necessary forms and policies that are needed to comply with," said Jennifer Nottingham, associate director of programs for U-Rec. "We like to meet with all the e-board members so we can get a chance to know them and vice versa."
The club currently has about 10 members and has played four games, all of which they've won. Their season will pick back up in January. However the team is looking into participating in some tournaments beforehand.
One of the biggest issues facing the club is the lack of facilities for practicing and hosting games at CMU and in the Mount Pleasant area.
They are looking into using Finch Fieldhouse or facilities in Midland.
The club wants to go to nationals and develop a fan base, as well as expand their team.
"At least have an A and an B team," Austin said.
For right now, the team has its eyes on a championship.
"I'd say right now our main goal is to be B Division national champions," Crank said.
Next year the team hopes to get the word out for membership at MAINstage.
"We plan on having this stay around for a while, this isn't like a one year thing," Austin said.
