EMU grabs in-state trophy from Central in 48-45 victory

"It's like deja vu all over again, like getting a reality check before we head into the postseason," Friend said. "It lets everybody know we're not invisible and we can be beat."

Junior running back Justin Hoskins took over the inconsistent CMU running game and rushed for a career-high 133 yards. LeFevour added 88 yards on the ground, and went 26-for-37 for 246 yards and a touchdown through the air.

"I thought it was probably the most balanced game we've had in terms of rushing and passing," Jones said. "But in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean a thing if you don't get the win."

CMU freshman wide receiver Antonio Brown broke Bryan Anderson's single-season receptions record of 73 with a 5-yard reception in the third quarter.

He now has 77 receptions on the season. But with the possibility of three games remaining and Anderson only eight receptions behind (69), the record could switch hands easily.

Now, Central (6-5 overall, 5-1 MAC) must turn its focus to Akron, where it will spend Thanksgiving weekend for an 11 a.m. game on Friday against the Zips. Akron (4-7, 3-4 MAC) is out of contention, but LeFevour said he expects the same intensity Eastern displayed Friday.

"That's the last time some of their seniors will ever play," LeFevour said. "It'll be the exact same thing except it'll be on their turf instead of ours."

Friend said CMU learned a lot from the loss.

"We'll have a chip on our shoulders when we come out next week, a little edge. And I promise you'll see us come out hard," he said.

A mistake is throwing to the wrong guy and is excusable. Chucking a helmet 30 yards cause someone holds your leg is disgraceful, classless, and embarassing. (Continued…)
