ROTC Reception

Chance to learn about Army scholarships

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps and Department of Military Science are hosting a reception for Central Michigan University student veterans and students to learn about scholarships offered by the Army. From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Bovee University Center Chippewa room, students will have a chance to ask any questions they have about the program and enjoy food and drinks. Maj. Gregg Mays, department chair for military science, said the reception is aimed at student veterans but anyone on campus who is interested in the ROTC or Army Reserve is encouraged to come. The program is looking for a solid grade point average, background in leadership and athleticism is a bonus but not as important as the grades. Mays said one of the biggest misconceptions of the program is that enrollment means being sent to fight in the war without the chance to finish a degree. He said this is not the case. The reception will give students a chance to clear up these misconceptions as well as learn about the scholarships offered.
