The women's basketball team's offensive woes continued Sunday in a loss at Oakland University.
The Chippewas (2-3) lost 74-53, and dropped the team below .500.
Coach Sue Guevara said the team had trouble scoring, which was not new, she said.
"We didn't play very well as a team," Guevara said. "We have to be better than what we were."
Guevara was displeased with the team's post play, saying it got 'zero' out of its post players.
"(We got) no points, no rebounds," she said. "We need something out of that position."
Sophomore forward Britni Houghton saw the game slip away when Oakland pushed the ball up the floor and CMU's transition defense was unable to recover.
"It was an offensive struggle," Houghton said. "But the big thing was the transition. They're (Oakland) small and quick and ran up the floor fast - we didn't do a good job on transition."
Oakland opened the game with a 13-4 run, but Central was able to cut the lead late in the half, pulling to within two points at 29-27. But Oakland scored the half's final four points to take a 33-27 halftime lead.
Central found itself down seven points midway through the second half, but still was in the game. That was until the Golden Grizzlies went on an 18-0 run during the next six-and-a-half minutes to seal the game.
Houghton finished the game with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior guard Angel Chan led the Chippewas with 12 points, while senior guard Candace Wilson finished with 11 points and shot 3-for-5 from three-point range.
Oakland's duo of Hanna Rising and Jessica Pike proved to be too much for the Chippewas, scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Central next plays in the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational on Friday at Northwestern University.
