NAACP pushes for justice in noose case; more than 70 attend rally

Chants of "no justice, no peace" could be heard Tuesday night as marchers walked and chanted their way through Central Michigan University's campus. About 70 people marched from the Industrial and Engineering Technology Building to Warriner Mall, where the CMU chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People hosted a rally.

MAC championship game tickets still available

Getting to Saturday's MAC championship game at Detroit's Ford Field just became more difficult. The 1,000 extra tickets and a remaining bus is sold out. The extra tickets bring the total sold to 7,000 or about 1,300 more than last year's game. Students can still buy tickets through Ticketmaster or by calling Ford Field at 313-262-2003.

Tickets to the Mid American Conference Championship game are dwindling as Saturday approaches. Only 250 student tickets remained as of Tuesday afternoon. The 2,000 allotted student tickets and the two buses reserved for sending students down to Ford Field sold out Monday afternoon.

The Mount Pleasant City Commission set in motion a plan that will clear the way for a $1.6 million retail development. Commissioners on Monday voted 6-1 to reimburse more than $100,000 over 12 years for the demolition of five properties on the corner of Mission and Cherry streets.

Tuesday night this seemed true when about 150 students, faculty and community members turned out for Thomas Lynch's presentation in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. The undertaker, author and poet said his time dealing with death has taught him what is essential to the funeral/grieving process.

Leaders wanted SGA seeks senators for spring The Student Government Association is looking for eight motivated people to serve in the Senate for the spring semester. Elections will take place Monday at the last general board meeting. Candidates must be nominated by an SGA member and are asked to deliver a short speech, then participate in a question and answer session with the association.

Jeannie Jackson is feeling good about her new job. Officials on Tuesday selected her as the next affirmative action officer at Central Michigan University. Jackson's anticipated start date is Feb. 11. "I feel like this is an opportunity for both Central Michigan and myself," she said.

Lennox could face expulsion

Junior cited for three violations in Oct. 23 incident

Topinabee junior Dennis Lennox II could face anything from a written reprimand to expulsion from Central Michigan University if it is determined he violated a university code for students. Lennox was cited Monday, in a letter sent by Director of Student Life Tony Voisinfor three different violations of the CMU Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Disciplinary Procedures.

Rachel Crandall is a transsexual on a mission for awareness and acceptance for all. She made that known Monday night at the Charles V. Park Library Auditorium. Crandall, executive director of TransGender Michigan, was born a male. She said she only identified with females since she could remember.

Workshop on 'seven habits' teaches time management

Human Resources is sponsoring the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Dec. 7 in Rowe Room 229. "This workshop is set up to expose individuals to ways that will better both their academic and professional lives," said Kimberly Voisin, assistant director of Residence Life.

Early registration attracts students to Honors Program

Emily Herrinton has never had trouble scheduling the classes she needs. That's because, up until this semester, the South Lyon junior was in CMU's Honors Program. Honors students must complete 22 credits of honors course work, complete six to eight hours of a single foreign language and complete 120 hours of community service to graduate with honors.

Police await warrant to arrest suspect in car theft

Central Michigan University Police have found the person who allegedly stole a car on campus between Nov. 16 and 17 and later crashed it on Pickard Road. Police are waiting to get a warrant to arrest the male suspect, whose name has not yet been released.

Students sell plasma for extra money

Erik Brace said he is kind of like a doctor because he saves people's lives. The Westland freshman is joking, but he does help save lives by donating plasma. "I'm broke and want to help people, too," he said. BioLife Plasma Services, 4279 E. Blue Grass Road, offers donors $20 for their first visit during a week and $35 for subsequent donations that week.
