Christmas is four weeks away, but some students already are in the holiday spirit.

Melissa Andres is one of them.

The Clinton Township senior and Concert Choir member will perform alongside her fellow classmates in the annual Juletide Concert at 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday at the Staples Family Concert Hall.

"People will find themselves leaving the concert in the holiday spirit, singing the songs of the season," Andres said.

The concert is comprised of the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Women's Choir, solos, ensembles and a variety of instrumental pieces.

Andres said the music is unlike other concerts and easy to understand for people who are not music majors.

"A totally feel-good concert," she said.

The concert will be a mix of multicultural, religious, popular and secular music.

Music Professor Nina Nash-Robertson, director of Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, said students participating in the concert have been rehearsing since October.

"It's a culmination of a semester of music," Nash-Robertson said.

The Women's Choir is expected to perform other songs besides the traditional Christmas carols.

Coldwater junior Raquel Brauker said she will perform her first solo "Villancio," a Portuguese Christmas carol.

The choirs will surround the audience, giving them a full-sound experience. As the choirs rotate around the audience, the audience will be encouraged to sing along to popular Christmas carols like "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" and "Let it Snow."

Nash-Robertson said previous concerts have filled the hall and she expects the same turnout for this year's concert.

Clinton Township junior Megan Priemer plans to attend the concert for the third time.

"I'm really excited about the local jazz group performing for the first time," Priemer said.

Priemer said she enjoys attending the concerts for the music and to support her friends.

Each performance Sunday is expected to last for an hour and 15 minutes.

Admission to the event is free.
