DETROIT - Junior defensive lineman Casey Droscha stood atop the wall in front of the student section with his hands raised as students chanted "C-M-U, C-M-U!" That pretty much said it all Saturday afternoon about the atmosphere at Ford Field for the Mid-American Conference Championship game.

DETROIT - It was hard to miss White Lake junior Eric Doll at Saturday's Mid-American Conference Championship game at Ford Field. Doll has been one of CMU's most passionate, loyal fans since he came to campus three years ago. "I love it because I've been a huge fan of football my whole life," Doll said.

CMU football, a Mid-American Conference dynasty? All the pieces are there for the Chippewas. The team won its second consecutive MAC title with a 35-10 win against Miami University, becoming the first repeat winner in the conference since Marshall won four straight from 1997 to 2000.

The club hockey team got off to a bad start in its drive to finish the semester strong against the No. 3 team in the Southeast Region this weekend. CMU lost twice against Miami, 4-1 on Saturday and 4-3 on Friday. The losses extend the team's losing streak to three games, its longest of the season.

Bowling Green, Ball State join CMU in postseason play

Three Mid-American Conference teams are bowl-bound this season. On Saturday, the MAC announced that conference champion Central Michigan will head back to the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26 to face Purdue out of Big Ten. Also going to bowl games are Ball State and Bowling Green.

Deromedi to be honored Tuesday with Penn State's Paterno

Herb Deromedi will be honored as a Hall of Fame coach Tuesday in New York City. Deromedi, CMU's football coach from 1978 to 1993, will be honored along with longtime Penn State coach Joe Paterno at the National Football Foundation's 50th Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria.

Comeback against Detroit gives Central first victory

It may have taken six games, but the men's basketball team earned its first win of the season Saturday, 70-66, against the University of Detroit-Mercy at Calihan Hall. It didn't come without a fight. Central was down by 16 points with 17 minutes remaining, but fought back with its defensive play, said coach Ernie Zeigler.

Luckett leads CMU to split

Junior guard Latisha Luckett has done most of her scoring off the bench this season. But on Saturday afternoon, Luckett started in place of Britni Houghton, CMU's regular starter. Luckett poured in 17 points in her debut as a starter for the Chippewas as CMU rallied from behind to defeat Wagner College, 73-61.
