As December graduation nears, seniors should be double-checking their graduation requirements.
Commencement Coordinator Sharon Russell said students should check graduation details on the Central Michigan University Web site, cmich.edu/graduation.
"Each senior will be mailed a packet outlining commencement information," she said.
Each senior also will receive six guest tickets, which they can pick up from Dec. 13 to 15 in Rose 125, Russell said.
Honors graduates can pick up their cords when they pick up their tickets.
Graduates also can pick up their caps and gowns and graduation confirmations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 14 and at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 15, before the ceremonies begin.
Linda Gillingham, assistant director for undergraduate academic services, said those who already have applied for graduation should already have received, or should soon receive, their graduation audits.
"Applications are the No. 1 thing, then watching for the audit and understanding it," Gillingham said.
She said she encourages students to print out the audit immediately and go through it in order to understand it.
Gillingham encourages students to keep up on their degrees, grades and e-mails, no matter when they're graduating, since many important details are received via e-mail. Also, students should ensure their current and correct addresses are on file, she said.
Gillingham, who is in charge of graduation audits, said audits are done in the order the applications are received, so the sooner students turn them in, the sooner they can be sure they are on track to graduate.
"Graduation only happens after the final grades are received," she said. "There are always some students under the assumption that walking at the ceremony means they've graduated."
Degrees are awarded alphabetically after commencement ceremonies. Gillingham said it could take up to eight weeks to receive the physical diploma, but times vary by graduation date.
Gillingham said May 2008 graduates should receive their commencement information around the first week of April. There is no other specific notification of graduation, she said.
All graduation information is sent to students' local addresses. If none is provided, it will be sent to the permanent addresses on file, Gillingham said.
