Maroon and gold covered the landscape at last year's Motor City Bowl at Ford Field.
The Central faithful helped sell 54,113 tickets, a Motor City Bowl record.
Expect even more people to attend this year's game with Purdue, a Big Ten team, lining up against them, said Ken Hoffman, Motor City Bowl executive director.
"It really does shape up as, perhaps, our best match up in our 11-year history and very likely another record crowd," he said.
Discounted tickets can be bought through the Athletic Ticket Office at a student rate of $35, $40 for sideline and $55 for club tickets. CMU initially is allotted 10,000 tickets, and more can be reserved if those sell out. The ticket office sold 1,000 tickets as of Tuesday afternoon. The first 1,000 student tickets were discounted to $35.
"The one key thing for us is to encourage our fans - students, alumni, whoever - to buy their tickets through CMU," said Nick Williams, associate athletics director of external operations.
Williams said those buying tickets through Ticketmaster or Ford Field won't be able to get tickets in the CMU section.
"If you want to sit in the CMU section, the only way you can buy tickets in the CMU section is to buy it through us," he said.
Like the Mid-American Conference Championship, the Alumni Association and Chippewa Athletic Fund will host a tailgate party in the North Club Lounge at Ford Field.
A $20 ticket gets attendees into a sanctioned party with a tailgate-style meal and nonalcoholic drinks. About 700 people showed up a similar tailgating party at the MAC Championship and about 1,000 are expected for the Motor City Bowl party.
"We really try to create a Chippewa atmosphere," said Christopher Austin, associate director of alumni relations.
Tickets for the game and the party are available in the Athletic Ticket Office or by calling 1-888-FIRE-UP2. The athletic ticket office will stay open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday until the Motor City Bowl.
The ticket office will feature an inflatable football mask and possibly some football players from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in front of the Bovee University Center.
"We're going to take our setup and put it in the middle of campus," Williams said.
