1)Dec. 1: CMU wins second consecutive
Mid-American Conference championship
One year after walking off Ford Field with a Motor City Bowl win, the Chippewas returned to defeat Miami University 35-10 and win their second consecutive MAC Championship under first-year coach Butch Jones.
Sophomore quarterback and MVP Dan LeFevour passed for 185 yards and ran for 170 more to overcome several offensive mistakes in the first half. The defense held the RedHawks to 306 yards of total offense, including 52 yards on the ground.
2)Nov. 6: CMU beats Western Michigan in wild finish, locks up MAC West Division
There was no better way to clinch a berth to the MAC Championship for the second consecutive year than a last-minute, game-winning drive against top rival WMU in Kalamazoo.
After leading most of the game, the Chippewas fell behind by four with only one minute, 34 seconds remaining, LeFevour found Bryan Anderson for a 39-yard reception to the 1-yard line. The play set up LeFevour's quarterback sneak with 12 seconds remaining, giving CMU a 34-31 win.
3)Sept. 22: NDSU routs Central 44-14, coach Butch Jones under scrutiny
Many expected CMU's home game vs. North Dakota State on Sept. 22 to be like any other game between a Football Bowl Subdivision team and a Football Championship Subdivision team - a sure win. However, the FCS superpower had other ideas. Tailback Tyler Roehl ran for 143 yards while quarterback Steve Walker finished 25-for-30 as the Bison routed CMU 44-14, dropping the Chippewas to 1-3. Many questioned Jones and the coaching staff after the game, especially with speculation about Jones' postgame comments, but the team won seven of nine since the loss.
4)Oct. 6: Record-breaking
performance at Ball State
Pegged to be CMU's top threat in the MAC West, Ball State, CMU came into the game heavy underdogs. But 658 total yards, eight touchdowns and three new school records later, the Chippewas came out with a 58-38 defining win. LeFevour finished with 506 total yards, the most in school history and third-most in conference history. He scored five total touchdowns, which tied a school record. The 658 yards also broke a single-game CMU record. Senior Ike Brown said he knew the team had repeat potential after the performance.
