The women's basketball team failed to gain its first Mid-American Conference win in its third attempt.

Central was defeated 87-60 in DeKalb, Ill. on Tuesday against Northern Illinois University.

Both teams entered the game with a record of 4-11 overall and were in the MAC.

But it was NIU that came out and earned its first conference win with Huskies freshman center Ebony Ellis leading the way with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ellis was one of four Huskies in double-digit scoring.

Northern Illinois had control of a majority of the game, taking a 46-32 lead into halftime while shooting 59.4 percent from the field. The Huskies finished shooting 49.2 percent.

CMU sophomore forward Britni Houghton set a career-high with 20 points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds. She shot 7-of-16 from the field and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

Senior guard Stacy Verhoff continued to play well 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, hitting her first five shots. Junior guard Latisha Luckett rounded out Central's double-digit scoring with 10 points.

The team suffered from poor shooting once again, finishing the game with a 38.2 shooting percentage.
