Jen Kober knows her way around college campuses.
Kober often frequents universities during her comedy tours.
Central Michigan University's Program Board will host a performance by the self-proclaimed "stand up philosopher" at 9 p.m. Friday in Real Food on Campus.
Kober is visiting CMU as a part of her Fat. Fun. Fabulous Tour.
"I saw her at the National Association of Campus Events and she cracked me up," said Christa Smalligan, Freemont senior and comedy chair for Program Board.
Smalligan and Program Board were interested in bringing Kober to CMU after seeing the performance.
Smalligan said Kober's humor is universal and should appeal to everyone.
"She tours colleges all the time," Smalligan said.
Kober's material largely draws upon her memories of growing up in Louisiana and stories about going to restaurants and stores. Her Web site describes her comedy as an "original blend of stand-up, story telling and improvised rock-n-roll comedy."
She has performed with such comedians as Damon Wayans, Dane Cook and Chris Tucker.
Kober has appeared on Last Comic Standing and Stand Up or Sit Down Comedy Challenge.
She was described as the "Lucille Ball of the 21st century" by Southwestern Louisiana Times writer Leslie Berman.
"I haven't heard of her before, but I plan on going," said Rochester Hills sophomore Melissa LaMotte.
Kober has started filming an online cooking reality sitcom hybrid called Big Dish that will air on Myspace TV. Kober's Web site describes the show as "Rachel Ray meets Pee Wee's Playhouse." A sneak preview of the show can be seen at myspace.com/jenkober.
Admission is free. The residential restaurant's beverage center will be open and complimentary cookies and donuts will be served during the show.
"I'm looking forward to it," Smalligan said.
