Stars of the Discovery Channel hit TV show "Mythbusters" will visit CMU to unravel the truths of some of life's greatest mysteries Friday night.
Kari Byron and Grant Imahara will present at 8 p.m. Friday in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium.
"In the past, we've done people who had been on TV shows and those have gone off pretty well," said Matt Burza, vice president of Program Board. "Then we heard that some of the Mythbusters were able for different speaking arrangements and we just said, 'We'll go for it.'"
Tickets are free to CMU students, but they must pick up tickets at the box office to get in. Others can buy tickets for $5. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Burza said the event will be similar to Bravo TV's Inside the Actors Studio; with a Q-and-A session following.
"We will let the audience dictate the event," Byron said. "We like a long Q-and-A so fans can ask us whatever they want."
It's something that is fun and educational that has lots of physics involved, said Koblar Jackson, chairperson of the physics department, which is co-sponsoring the event.
Jackson likes the fact that the show follows the scientific basics while solving the myths.
"I think what's really important is that the show really illustrates a scientific approach to the kinds of questions that they address," Jackson said.
Byron said the show helps people get into science by making it interesting.
"I think science is becoming more accessible through shows like ours," Byron said. "We have fun with it and people can see that."
"Mythbusters" is filming a special show in Alaska. The co-hosts of the show are Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. The show also stars Byron, Imahara, Tory Belleci, Scottie Chapman and Christine Chamberlain. The show's next new episode, titled "PoCB/Poat," is scheduled to air next Wednesday.
