Students can have some good clean fun at the upcoming 9th annual Phi Mu Broomball Tournament.
Phi Mu, a social sorority, is using the tournament as a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network.
Phi Mu member and Holland senior Jessica Bashaw said the group has high hopes this year.
"We're hoping to raise about $1,500 for the hospital in Lansing," she said.
The tournament will take place at 11 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Isabella County Events Arena, 5165 E. Remus Road. It will continue through the night until 7 a.m. the following morning.
Teams of six to 10 players who are all male, all female or co-ed must sign up and pay a $10 dollar per player fee by Saturday. The player fee includes a free T-shirt, food and drinks.
Win or lose, each team will play at least two games during the night. The tournament will be single-elimination style, with both a winner and loser bracket. There will be a silent auction where attendees can place bids on items such as Detroit Red Wings tickets, tanning packages, and golfing at Riverwood Resort.
Stephanie Eidson, Rockford junior and co-chair for the event, said the event is open to the community.
"In the past we've even had the police department participate," she said.
Players must be 18 or older unless they have written permission from a parent or guardian.
"Children's Miracle Network is Phi Mu's national philanthropy, and we'll actually get to deliver the donations directly to the kids at the hospital," said Escanaba junior Alicia Nantelle, chairperson for the event..
In the fall, members of Phi Mu were able to visit and spend some time with the children at the hospital.
Last year 25 teams participated in the event and the girls are hoping for a good turnout this year as well.
Students can sign up at the Phi Mu house or by picking up an application from any Phi Mu member.
