Wednesday's snowstorm may not be the last batch of inclement weather CMU gets this month.

Mount Pleasant could see another storm as soon as next week, said meteorologist John Kowaleski of the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

"We're looking at another one for next Tuesday that has the potential for more snow accumulation," Kowaleski said.

The most recent snowstorm deposited between 10 to 14 inches of snow, slightly more than the predictions of six to 12 inches.

The weather patterns are affecting Mount Pleasant in more ways than just closing CMU's campus.

The Isabella County Road Commission's budget is tightening, said Directing Manager Tony Casali.

About 80 percent of the $950,000 winter operating budget already has been spent on the upkeep of the 1,200 miles of county roadways, Casali said.

Because of the storms, the commission's salt is starting to run low. To save salt for possible ice storms, the commission is switching from a salt and sand mixture to one of sand and brine.

Right, a couple of freak snow storms that have occurred in Michigan has completely disproved the theory of global warming. After all, it's perfectly logical to take a small scale local event and blow it up to global proportions. (Continued…)
