Event will benefit Michigan Humane Society
PR Central is hosting Mangeant 2008 at 10 p.m. Tuesday at The Cabin, 930 W. Broomfield St. People 18 years or older are welcome to come and vote for their favorite contestant. The men will participate in activities such as a question-and-answer session, a talent competition and a swimwear competition. PR Central is an in-house, student-run public relations agency. All proceeds will benefit the Michigan Humane Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the animals of metropolitan Detroit. The organization has a goal to have 100 percent of adoptable animals adopted by 2010. More than 100,000 animals are cared for by the Michigan Humane Society each year. Services provided include animal behavior and training programs, spaying and neutering, adoption of companion animals and charitable animal hospitals and veterinary clinics, among others.

Program Board, Hillel and the Student Budget Allocation Committee are sponsoring "Stand Up For Peace, The Two Comedian Solution to Middle East Peace." Comedians Scott Blakeman and Dean Obeidallah will perform at 7:30 p.m. today in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium. Blakeman's comedy is a combination of political humor and contemporary Jewish humor. He was the warm-up comedian for "The Late Show with David Letterman" and can be heard regularly on National Public Radio. Blakeman co-founded "The Two Comedian Solution to Middle East Peace" with Obeidallah, who worked as a lawyer before turning to comedy. Obeidallah, the son of a Sicilian mother and Palestinian father, has a one-man show focused on his life as an Arab-American after 9/11, titled "I Come in Peace." The show is free.
