Women's research begins

Grand Valley has become part of the nationwide movement for the study of women's health, according to the Grand Valley Lanthorn.

GVSU has teamed up with West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative, Spectrum Health and Michigan State University to open a women's research lab on GVSU's campus.

"The lab is essentially ready now, with the pending occupation of a new clinical research team," said Linda Chamberlain, the initiative's executive director.

The new lab seeks to answer prevalent questions regarding women's health. The research will focus on women's reproductive issues and gynecological cancers, Chamberlain said.

Spectrum Health Hospitals donated $80 million in March 2006 to support the move of the studies from MSU's medical school to GVSU.

Student found dead in apartment

An MSU student was found dead Wednesday night in his apartment in Spartan Village, according to the State News.

Junior Dennis Ziomek was found lying on his couch with the front door open. Police say he had been dead for days.

MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said that there was no sign of violence. Results from the autopsy have not been finalized.

Residents of the apartment did not suspect something was wrong because it is common to see open apartment doors because of heating issues.
